Amorphous Graphite

Amorphous graphite is a variant of graphite, which does not have a regular crystal structure like crystalline graphite, but shows a disordered microscopic form. It is usually formed from coal or carbon-bearing shale after high temperature treatment, and is a naturally occurring graphite material. Amorphous graphite is widely used as lubricants, paints, brake pads, etc.

Amorphous graphite is a soft, dark black material with lower graphitic carbon content and reflectivity than other types of graphite. With its unique physical and chemical properties, amorphous graphite has a certain application value in a variety of industrial fields. Especially in some of the graphite crystallinity requirements are not high, but there is a need for cost control and specific performance occasions. It shows good applicability, can meet some of the basic material needs in industrial production.

Advantages of amorphous graphite

Amorphous graphite is a solid material, and the appearance of it is often powder, block or soil. Its advantages are obvious.

Good chemical stability

It can withstand the erosion of most acids, bases and other chemicals at room temperature. And it is not easy to react, ensuring its long-term stability in some chemical environments.

Хорошо high temperature resistance performance

You can normally use it in a certain high temperature range (such as 1000° C-1500 °C). And it can still maintain its basic physical and chemical properties under high temperature environment.

Certain electrical conductivity

Although the electrical conductivity of amorphous graphite is not as good as that of high-crystallinity графит, it also has a certain electrical conductivity. It can meet some application scenarios where the requirements for electrical conductivity are not particularly high.

In addition, due to its amorphous structural characteristics, it has relatively good processing performance. Easy to crush, grind and mix operations, convenient for further processing and utilization in different industrial production processes. And it can flexibly adjust its shape and performance according to actual needs.

The price of amorphous graphite varies due to a number of factors. From the purity point of view, the ordinary purity of amorphous graphite powder, the price is generally 285-714 USD/ton. High purity of amorphous graphite, the price will increase accordingly. Such as some 99% purity products, the price is about 1140-1700 usd/ton.

Amorphous graphite uses

The application areas of amorphous graphite are more extensive, and the following are some common application directions.

Iron and steel metallurgy field

Amorphous graphite as a carburizer, has high carbon content and low price. It can supplement liquid iron carbon, optimize steel composition, improve hardness, strength and wear resistance. You can use it in steelmaking and casting, ensure quality, reduce costs, improve efficiency.

Refractories

Due to high temperature resistance and chemical stability, you can mix amorphous graphite and clay to make refractory products. Then use it for high temperature furnace lining, high heat and erosion resistance, extended furnace life, reduce energy and maintenance costs.

Battery industry

It is a negative electrode additive or auxiliary material in some batteries to improve электрод conductivity and battery performance. With low cost, it has advantages in battery application scenarios with low performance requirements and price sensitivity.

Chemical field

You can use it to manufacture catalyst carrier, large specific surface area and stability. It can support active components, improve catalyst activity and selectivity, help chemical reaction. Then improve chemical product quality and production efficiency, reduce cost and resource consumption.
