Zwakke van der Waals krachten houden de koolstoflagen bij elkaar, waardoor ze gemakkelijk over elkaar glijden. Deze eigenschap maakt grafiet tot een effectief smeermiddel. Bovendien heeft het een hoog smeltpunt en een goede thermische stabiliteit door de sterke covalente bindingen binnen de koolstoflaag.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Electrical_and_Thermal_Conductivity\"><\/span>Elektrische en thermische geleidbaarheid<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Grafiet dankt zijn elektrische geleidbaarheid aan zijn unieke kristalstructuur. Deze elektronen vormen een integraal onderdeel van de hoge elektrische geleidbaarheid, waardoor een effectieve overdracht van elektriciteit mogelijk is bij het aanleggen van een spanning.<\/p>\n<p>Ook is de unieke structuur verantwoordelijk voor de opmerkelijke warmtegeleiding. De systematische en zeshoekige gelaagdheid van koolstofatomen zorgt voor een effectieve overdracht van warmte-energie via de trillingen van deze atomen. Dit fenomeen, fonongeleiding, is verantwoordelijk voor de uitstekende warmtegeleidingseigenschappen.<\/p>\n<p>Met name het warmtegeleidingsvermogen van grafiet is anisotroop, wat betekent dat het varieert met de richting van de warmtestroom. Het vertoont een hoog warmtegeleidingsvermogen parallel aan de lagen, vanwege de dicht opeengepakte koolstofatomen en effici\u00ebnte fonongeleiding. Omgekeerd is het warmtegeleidingsvermogen relatief laag loodrecht op de lagen vanwege de grotere afstand tussen deze lagen en minder atomaire interacties.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Uses_of_Graphite\"><\/span>Gebruik van grafiet<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Van potloden tot batterijen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De vele toepassingen van grafiet zijn terug te voeren op zijn chemische structuur. Het werkt als een smeermiddel, dus je kunt er een potlood mee maken - de koolstoflaag glijdt over het papier en laat een spoor van koolstof (potloodstrepen) achter.
